Next step: Chief Customer Officer?
On my journey to becoming Chief Customer Officer, I quickly realized that it is about more than just leading teams or driving projects. It is about putting the customer at the center of every decision and developing a vision that ensures long-term success. Back then, my coaches were indispensable sparring partners who helped me ask the right questions and find the courage to do things differently.
I remember countless conversations where we examined strategies, questioned processes and developed solutions that moved both the customer and the company forward. It was this mix of focused collaboration and a willingness to continuously evolve that helped me truly thrive in the CCO role.
Today, I mentor aspiring CCOs myself and could not be happier about it. I know exactly how challenging yet fulfilling this path is. It is a role that demands courage, clarity and a strong dose of customer orientation – and that is precisely what I want to pass on. I see myself not just as a coach, but as a companion on an exciting journey. It is about unlocking the potential that is already there and paving the way to fully realize it.
What motivates me most is seeing my coachees progress as they take the next step and celebrate their first wins. It fills me with pride to see them find their own path and inspire their teams to truly live customer-centric growth.
For me, one thing is clear: a successful CCO is someone who uses the customer as a compass and is willing to challenge established paths. Coaching is not just about discussing strategies, but also about fostering a culture of honest feedback and close collaboration – just as I experienced it myself.
The best CCOs I know are those who act with passion and conviction. They are the voice of the customer within the company and drive changes that create real value. Passing on this mindset is not a duty for me, but a passion project.
I have learned so much through coaching – about myself, about leadership and about what it truly means to work in a customer-centric way. I now want to pass these experiences on to the next generation of Chief Customer Officers. My goal is to give them the tools they need to succeed in their role and realize their own vision.
Every path to becoming a CCO is unique, but the values that shape this journey are universal: openness, courage and an unwavering belief that the customer comes first.
